Châlus, castle mottes at Mazaubrun

Three mottes of the high Middle Ages are visible on the D901 one kilometre from the centre of Châlus in the direction of Bussière Galant. These mounds supported defensive towers, probably made of wood, while at their feet there developed a bailey comprising dwellings, workshops and outbuildings.

Bussière-Galant, the Medieval boundary stone of Grelette at La Gacherie

This armorial boundary marker dating from the 15th or 16th century marked a territorial boundary: it carries on one side the arms of the family d’Albret, who were heirs to the Viscounty of Limoges and therefore to the fortress of Châlus in the 15th century, and on the other side the arms of the Pérusse family of Les Cars.
